Dimensions: 2.5m high
Date: 1980
Media: bronze figure and structure
Brief: to create a sculpture to fit pre-made plinths.
The final sculpture became a “monument to the shopper” – a constant human activity requiring dedication and purpose and not often praised or noticed.
The life-sized figure sits on a strong base that also supports a screen as a means of providing a controlled background. Originally, around the base were several small forms – a tree, a shell and an owl – accessible and for the interest of children visiting the location.
“The Shopper” has been relocated outside the new shopping centre at Central Way, Cumbernauld.
